The Soap Box
The Soap Box is where we tell stories—yours, mine, and ours. We’d love to hear yours and potentially feature it here.
The Ancestors
I was the youngest grandkid on both sides of the family and by the time I came around they were just flat worn out, I suppose. I was not excluded, but they were full up on their kids’ kids and you know, last in first out.
A Love Song to Appalachia
Appalachia, if you didn’t know, is its own thing and very different from being “southern.” It represents self-sufficiency and minding your own damn business.
More About my Dad
He didn’t let us drink Mountain Dew or watch The Simpsons because they both made him feel bad about himself. He taught me never to carry debt and always tote my own load, which are similar things, but different lessons.
What you Need to Know About Me
I want to tell the truth, but I am not always sure what that is.
I have a good heart but there are things I am angry about.
I used to be a people pleaser and now I please myself full time.
